EQUINOX

Ellen Clarke-Quy & Andia Coral Newton
19 September - 15 October 2023
at Royal George, 85 Tanner’s Hill, London, SE8

An exploration of passages, portals, folklore and doorways through textile installation.

This exhibition, part of Deptford X Festival 2023, is a collaborative project between local artists Ellen Clarke-Quy and Andia Coral Newton. Drawn together by their shared commitment to textile art and mythology, ‘Equinox’ is an exploration of passages, portals, folklore and doorways through textile art.

As Deptford X falls over the autumn equinox, Andia and Ellen are keen to explore the mythos and folklore surrounding this significant moment of transition in the annual calendar. As one phase of the year ends and another begins, the artists will be presenting works depicting natural and domestic passages, such as fairy rings, hearths, and erupting chrysalises. Their installation uses the architecture of the historic pub, Royal George, to explore the experience of passing from one space to another.
